DESTINATION OVERVIEW
• Nepal: Nepal is popular for majestic Himalayan peaks and splendid trekking trails. With eight of the world’s highest peak in the country, Nepal is the ultimate destination for high adventure and mountaineering expeditions. The country abounds in ancient Hindu temples and Buddhist shrines and monuments. The medieval palaces and temples in the three old cities of Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktapur showcase the country’s rich cultural heritage. The lush jungles in the Terai belt are a treasure trove for wildlife enthusiasts and avid birdwatchers. The fast flowing Himalayan Rivers like Trishuli and Bhote Koshi serve as spots for adrenaline pumping outdoor adventures like white water rafting, canyoning and kayaking.
• Bhutan: Bhutan, 'the land of thunder Dragon' and 'the last Shangri La' on earth, is situated in the lap of the Eastern Himalayas between India and the People's Republic of China. Covering an area of 18,000 sq miles, the tiny Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan is one of the most isolated nations in the world. Spectacular mountain terrain, varied flora and fauna and unique ancient Buddhist monasteries have made Bhutan an exemplary tourist destination. It is bestowed with rich bio-diversity harbouring around 300 medicinal herbs and 165 endangered species. Each part of Bhutan has its own historical, geographical, cultural, traditional and religious significance.
Cultural Tours in Bhutan:
Bhutan is a remote & independent kingdom in the eastern Himalayas and the last bastion of Tibetan Buddhist culture and religion in its purest form. Despite opening up to tourism in the late 70's, it has managed to minimise the effect of outside influences and the country is virtually untouched, in terms of the environment, religion, architecture and lifestyle.
Trekking in Bhutan:
The power and beauty of the mountains is more impressive on foot than from any vehicle. Whether you take a two-night trek around the Bumthang valley or take, the eight-day trek to the base of Mt. Chomolhari, the views, villages, people and experience will be unparalleled. Trekking during April and May in the Himalayas brings the deep reds and oranges of the rhododendrons’ blossom.
Mountain Biking in Bhutan:
Bhutan's mountainous terrain offers a fascinating adventure for Mountain biking enthusiasts. The route along Bhutan's west-east highway (approx. 600 km) is an exciting route with challenges of surmounting a new pass over 3000 meters every day. The winding highways with drops of thousands of feet make for a spectacular, adrenaline-inducing ride.
• Tibet: With a stark and dramatic landscape, the journey to 'the roof of the world' will leave you enthralled and mesmerized. The ancient Tibetan cities of Lhasa, Gyantse, Shigatse with its dzongs (citadels), palaces and monasteries are worth exploring. In the far west of Tibet is Mt. Kailash, a sacred mountain venerated by Buddhists, Hindus, Jains and the Bons. A pilgrimage to this sacred peak is said to wash away the sins of a lifetime. Tibet also has the world’s highest railway service. A train journey aboard the world's highest railway is an experience of a lifetime.
